I have owned this radio for a few months now, bought from AES. I have had, great customer service, in the sales process.
First off, the radio has amazing audio, I have worked a great deal of DX with this radio, running only 100 watts, I have received great signal and audio reports. The filters in the radio are fantastic for dealing with QRM. Digital C4FM is crystal clear.
The display is fantastic, adjustable in brightness, and color. There is also a keypad for direct entry of frequencies, which helps out in going to your favorite nets in a breeze. Connecting the rig up to the computer is a little tricky, even though it has a direct USB connection, with a little patience and help from the yahoo forums it really is a breeze.
The scope function, and built in waterfall display is great.
I have taken the radio over to a friend's house and compared the size and ears to his Yaesu ft-897d, It is just a little smaller in size, granted the tuner is built in to this radio, verses on the side of the 897. He too was amazed of the audio quality and features the radio has.
A word of caution, I have seen on the forums... Do not, Repeat, DO not drive a full 100 watts in the AM mode... It is a flaw that has not been dealt with in the firmware updates... I have ran full power on every other feature and mode of the radio with no issues at all.
I highly recommend this radio for a small full featured station. It is loaded with everything you can imagine in a small package.
This is a very solid radio for someone who wants everything in one radio.
Important things this radio has
HF, 6m, 2m, 70cm all in one box Antenna Tuner is very good 100 watts HF and 50 watts 2M and 70cm USB connection for radio control and audio input and output of the rig Spectrum analyzer Very intuitive user interface
This radio has lots of options and lots of configurable settings. Yaesu does a very good job at making it intuitive to navigate them all. The "F" menu gets a bit busy, especially how often one uses it but its not a detractor from the product.
This is a very good radio for the first timer to the seasoned vet. It has all the subtle features that people want for CW and the features that are commonly used for SSB and FM communications are easy to use.
