FT991 RTTY FSK

The Ft991 is capable of both AFSK and FSK. It depends on how you want to interface.
The Dual Uart, USB jack, is capable of both. Whether you can run FSK depends entirely on
your software with the dual uart connection. Ham Radio Deluxe, the commercial version, and MMTTY or N1MM with MMTTY are fully capable of running FSK with the single usb cable hookup. With other software, your mileage will vary.

Next, you can run AFSK with almost all of the available software. FLdigi is in use by some.
The external interfaces, such as signalink or timewave navigator, are not required for the ft991.
If you use the signalink usb, it is not capable of true FSK.
The timewave navigator is capable of true FSK.
Several other good interfaces are available.

Now, as to the external data rtty port. You can wire up a switching device to run true fsk on this port.
I do not recommend this approach unless your technician skills are adequate. But little is required for this type of interface.
Many are running dxlabs and othe software that I am not familiar with. But those listed above will get you on the air.

Look in the files section of this yahoo group for setup instructions.

  1. Check out that last sentence. I spent hours trying to get my N1MM+ plus MMTTY and FT-991A to work on SSB until I went to the files area of the FT-991 Yahoo group and found those instructions. It was still complicated, but after following the instructions I had RTTY working.
