I've tested and this proves that this rig is capable of tx at 446MHz for ex as it is.. software mod only I guess.. some hacker among us? :-)
I've checked that out of band TX is possible only via service menu. Manually tunned 446.05625MHz and rig was putting power to the antenna with a flawless FM modulation. Im a owner of a EU version, and it will NOT tx above 440.000MHz under normal running circumstances. So, fisically everything should be ready for tx, just software blocking our path I guess.
Hi did you actually change settings in the service menu? if so what settings?i think a lot of people ,myself included are little bit dismayed at the lack of tx from 146 to 148 after all the 991 is advertised on yaesu uk site as 144-148 tx on vhf.. i have emailed yaesu uk on numerous times to get an explanation for this but with no reply....yaesu are guilty of misrepresentation and false advertising so they need to be more forthcoming with the required information.

How to change european version to usa version
author: Ruedi Walther - HB9TTU
USA Settings for the European version.
Press the FAST, LOCK and F HOLD buttons when you turn on the radio.
A reset is performed and all settings and memories are lost.
The transceiver now transmits from 144 - 148 MHz and from 430 - 450 MHz

ReplyDeleteHi there.. No, I cannot find any related settings on service menu about tx limits.. didnt change a thing. service menu just enable wideband tx. Got out of service menu, everything back no normal..
ReplyDeleteI am very disappointed with the false advertising for sure..
Hi i have been told by a local amateur who has spoken to yaesu uk regarding vhf/uhf wideband, yaesu uk told him wideband tx in vhf/uhf was blocked in firmware and yaesu us will not allow yaesu uk to distribute us firmware...i think this will change in time though, the more people complain to yaesu uk and threaten legal action the sooner this issue will be resolved...i really like the 991 it has a fantastic front end and the dsp filtering is very good however it will be getting sent back for a refund very soon unless this issue is not resolved...i would not of bought this radio if i knew there was no tx on 146-148mhz as i have nov in uk to transmit up to 147.000 on vhf.
ReplyDeletelets hope some information surfaces soon.
i think if it were that easy to get hold of, somebody would of tried that by now, plus yaesu uk will not confirm or deny this is the way forward, neither will they supply the relevant firmware to upload into the rig...as of yet....but it will come sooner or later thats for sure.
ReplyDeleteSince this thread seems to be about UK radios being set to 144.146 MHz only, I'll comment on that. Per RSGB, the UK is only allowed operations between 144-146 MHz, therefore, Yaesu (as well as all other manufactures producing and selling radios for amateur use) set the band limits as such. Yaesu, nor other manufactures, are being "Spectrum Guardians", they are operating within the rules set forth by the powers that be to be able to sell their products. Selling a radio you claim to like just because it won't transmit where you think it should is silly. But, hey, who am I to tell anyone what to do?
ReplyDeleteI think you will find we can tx from 146 to 148..... just need a nov...but hey, who am i to comment
DeleteThe NOV permits UK full licence holders only to TX up to 147 MHz with a recommendation that the band 146 to 147 is used for experimentation with new digital technology.
DeleteI just claim yaesu un and yaesu japan to expand 146 148 MHz. But no news.km waiting....
ReplyDeleteHi there. I am waiting to know something about FT 991 VHF mods, but silence is total everywhere!
